Major League Soccer/Australian A-League

Working in a single-league country, wage caps/restriction on the size of your squad, it's a very different type of challenge. In America, with the annual drafts as well, it makes squad management quite crucial to any success you have.

Case in point is with the most recent winners of MLS, Real Salt Lake. No real star players, but a decent squad of players that Jason Kreis has got working well together. They've got a few good young players, one of whom a lot of people will now be a lot more familiar with, Robbie Findley, who played up front for the US at the World Cup.

But I'm drifting away from the point. A league like the MLS is very different from the Premiership, Serie A, La Liga etc. It's not about having the best squad, but the best team  Wink

lower league management is my forte, mainly cos im a rushden fan so im used to the lower leagues Cheesy

back to my birmingham game, in season 2022/23 now, amazingly still at birmingham, Joe Hart is the most played player in birmingham history now, has only been injured once in his time since i signed him right at the beginning of the game lol

we have had major success, 8 premier league titles all back to back, hoping for my 9th in a row in the new season, the new challengers in the prem are Wolves and Fulham, last season Arsenal got relegated on the last day of the season losing 3 nil to Utd (whom finished 14th), sir alex retired in 2015 and since then utd have had 8 different managers. i resigned from England after winning back to back world cups and a euro championship. meanwhile in italy, Juventus are now a serie B side and its Roma and AC Milan who are just simply in a league of their own and have been for the last 4 seasons, usually them 2 are at least 20 points clear of 3rd.

small sides to of come up in english football
Bedford Town are now league 2 title contenders
Rushden are a safe championship side, possible play offs this year i reckon
Dunstable Town have also made it into the football league after dominating the Blue Square Premier last season so they are the leagues new boys
Premiership new boys are Charlton, MK Dons and Stevenage

Real Sociedad won the Spanish top flight

Celtic have gone bankrupt and Rangers are now the only team capable of winning the SPL LOL so its all going on.

Southend are firmly non league now, in the Southern premier, and Newcastle after a brief 1 year stay in the prem, have had 8 back to back relegations and find themselves just below the northern premier, so sorry to bruce and jops there.

p.s. in newcastles defence they have had 8 different owners all of whom decalred bankruptcy just after purchasing so no money been put into the club for some time now, would hate the job of manager there, (Tony Grant, ex Everton midfielder)

lol it is funny to see sides that shouldnt ever be down there down there lol, lower league management, well my first tip and this is more important than in the higher leagues, is budget, dont if possible exceed your wage budget at that level its near impossible to recover it unless you let go key players and do a few seasons without many transfers to balance the books, second of all, say you take on a BSP team for example if they have a half decent rep for example luton or oxford or rushden or mansfield etc teams like that, you will find you can sign loanees from "some" prem clubs plus championship clubs, thats about as far as it goes for signing higher league players, your main concentration should be on under acheivers in the league above, freebies and well performing players in the leagues below. Key to these transfers is dont set your standards high, start low and if you find a decent player willing to sign then great, otherwise your looking at players with stats around 8-10 for their main positional attributes, higher BSP teams aim to get players with ability of 10-12 for their positions.

one way of getting well performing players in the division below you is keep pestering them by declaring interest and eventually the club will accept an ok offer, Matt tubbs is one example of a very good BSP player should score 18 and higher in goals per season, in my game where i took charge of Brentford who were then in league 2 i signed Tubbs for 10k and he did very well in league 2, Lee Tomlin is also another very good lower league player as is Curtis Osano, Luton have some gems to so if your league 2 have a look through for them players and see if you can mould the budget, the main areas of weakness in lower league teams is Defence and Strikers, Goalkeepers can be problematic but more often than not youth keepers seem to play just as good, so before you buy midfielders make sure your defence is okay and solid enough, injuries are more of a problem to, so having a few backup players is an idea, or make sure you keep developing your youth players tutoring them and giving them hard training schedules to bring them along

My game is still fairly plausible, in 2023/24 now, 11 straight premier league titles for Ipswich Grin
All the big teams are still there or there abouts when it comes down to qualifying for europe, although Sheffield United qualified for the champions league last season, and Port Vale have made europe before. Port Vale and Huddersfield are the only surprise teams in the premiership.
The championship boasts the likes of Spurs, Fulham and Sunderland, West Ham are in League 1, two places ahead of Barrow Wink Hartlepool are bottom of the football league, so Jeff won't be feelin good Tongue
World Cups won by Brazil (2010), Portugal (2014), Spain (2018) - managed by me Grin, Argentina (2022)
Euros won by France (2012), Croatia (2016), France (2020) - England are hosting 2024, so maybe Jermain Defoe can inspire England to victory on home soil :p
I think the only managers still in their original jobs are Owen Coyle at Burnley, Nigel Worthington for Northern Ireland and Pep Guardiola at Barcelona. For the Newcastle fans, your manager is ... John Terry :p still in the premier league though
I took over Uruguay following the 2022 world cup, bit of a challenge - ranked 63rd in the world when I took over, but after winning the Copa America, back up to 19th now Smiley

In a word, no. 14th in league 2 at the moment, got relegated from the dizzy heights of league 1 last season.

probably the last fm update i'll have before my holiday, had a new game started up, decided id start in the Hong Kong league, in charge of Sha Tin. this was going well until i got sacked for declaring my interest in a higher profile club back in england. in my time there i had a board take over alot of money brought in Simeon Jackson he was a superb signing 6 in 6 he had before i got sacked, after i got sacked i then got hired as England U20's boss, got them to the quarter finals in the U20 world cup with a less than decent squad that i couldnt change. then got the job at MVV in the Jupiler League, signed some brilliant freebies and launched them up the table got sacked out of the blue for a preffered Dutch manager, so that was just 1 month in the job there, the very next day the 17th of november i got the job as Albacete manager, they were in a dire situation in the relegation zone and i found i couldnt do much with them we got thrashed in each and every game we played, and i resigned on the 1st of december, so not even half a month in charge of them. i then declared my interest in the Bradford City job they were languishing in 15th place under peter taylor, they then sacked taylor and i was drafted in immediatly on the 3rd of december, so far so good, to my surprise Simeon Jackon had transferred to Bradford unknown to me, and he was left rotting in the reserves with an injury. so seems everyone abandoned ship just after i left Sha tin. my first 2 games in charge so far have been brilliant, 1-0 away win for us at Darlington and then thrashed 3rd placed Rotherham 4-1!! simeon jackson in those 2 games got an assist at darlington and 2 goals and another assist against Rotherham Cheesy we are now up to 12th in the table and back with a positive goal difference Cheesy

Incoming transfers are Lee Tomlin, Andrej Pernecky, and Mirko Teodorovic, and if work permits go through defender Marcao, and defender Chen Lei.

at current my line up is :

GK Matt Glennon
DR Simon Ramsden
DL Luke O'Brien
DC Zesh Rehman
DC Clive Delaney
MR Makhtar N'Diaye
ML Omar Daley
MC Terry McFlynn
MC Michael Flynn
ST Gareth Evans
ST Simeon Jackson

EDIT: Marcao and Chen Lei permits refused. transfers cancelled.

transfers confirmed: Jonathan Fortune from Sheff Utd, Adam Lockwood from Doncaster, Brett Ormerod from Blackpool, Paul Reid from Colchester.

Free's in: Josue Belemandji, Michal Dolinajec, Yaser Kasim, Cagri Kodalak, Oliver Nicholas, Emexca Orwubiko.

Further edit: Kasper Schmeichel has been drafted in and been superb, Tom Heaton is also in on loan.

so far jackson has smashed in 12 goals in 11 games since ive been here (the same length of games), Ormerod has also scored 5 in his 6 games so far

my record so far stands as this:
A=Away, H=Home

A, Darlington 0 Bradford 1, WON
H, Bradford 4 Rotherham 1, WON
A, Aldershot 2 Bradford 2, DREW
A, Bury 1 Bradford 4, WON
H, Bradford 2 Shrewsbury 1, WON
H, Bradford 3 Cheltenham 0, WON
A, Port Vale 0 Bradford 2, WON
H, Bradford 0 Notts County 0, DREW
A, Lincoln 1 Bradford 3, WON
A, Torquay 2 Bradford 4, WON
H, Bradford 3 Bury 1, WON

Well i wanted to see if i could make something of a team that was once great, atm we have the best record in the last 2 months, but northampton are still plodding along at the top so i dont think we have enough time to catch them we are currently 5th just 2 points from the last automatic promotion place, otherwise Northampton and Rochdale are 5 points clear of 3rd both on 59 points, we are sitting on 52 points, problem is northampton and rochdale have very very strong squads, so im hoping to have a good run at 3rd then try and chase them 2 down.

good thing is we are very comfortable in the play offs we have a 7 point advantage over the team just outside the play off spots which surprisingly is Burton Albion
